#Ashtag selfie of your forehead wanted today

Don’t wipe off that black smudge from your forehead today without first taking a selfie shot and posting it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with #Ashtag. Welcome to #Ashtag Wednesday, a social media trend that started last year, and now the US bishops are joining the event by sponsoring a contest.

The marketing arm of the US Catholic Conference of Catholic Bishops is using the cyber event to encourage evangelization. It goes like this: Wear your ashes with love of Christ, open opportunities for questions, or just spread the Good News in a quiet, passive way. Post your photo using #Ashtag and enter the USCCB contest for a chance to win a book, Lent and Easter with the Church Fathers, selections from the writings of the Fathers of the Church with prayerful meditations for the Lent and Easter seasons. Go to the USCCB web site for details. This is for US residents only. The contest ends tonight at 11:59pm EST.
