Pope Emoji adds cartoon Pope Francis to your social media conversation

Text and tweet about His Holiness with Pope Emoji, a free keyboard app of animated GIFs and stickers devoted to the character, Pope Francis. We’re talking 52 pope-themed stickers and 14 animated GIFs with a cartoon pope in various settings appropriate to his historic visit to the United States, September 22-27. And it’s pretty popular. In just four days since its September 10 launch, reports Fortune, more than 30,000 people have downloaded the “Popemoji” keyboard and sent 235,000 “Popemojis” via text, email, Twitter or Facebook.

The free keyboard app is available for both Apple and Android and can be used just like any other third-party keyboard app. But don’t let the name fool you. These are NOT emoji-sized graphics. They are larger stickers–pope eating a hot dog; pope in a taxi cab; pope saying “Hi” or giving a thumbs up. And they are animated GIF images of pope snapping his fingers; pope in front of a waving American flag; pope ringing the Liberty Bell.

Operation is pretty straightforward after downloading: re-set your keyboard setting with prompts; choose a sticker or GIF image and choose the social media you’d like to use to send the image.

Developers say that if Pope Emoji become popular enough, they may update with new stickers and animations in the future.
